Obama is finished

Or so says Dorothy Rabinowitz of the Wall Street Journal. On this past weekend's weekly TV "Journal Editorial Report," hosted by Paul Gigot, she and other panelists were asked to make predictions for 2008. Here is her big one, right off the transcript: "My pick? Well, I think that in very short order Americans are going to be asking, Who is Barack Obama?

"You know, this man has come forward like a Rorschach test for everybody to project this notion of what a Democratic candidate should be. He's the inkblot. And it's becoming clearer and clearer that this mass of platitudinous, high-minded expression pouring forth from Obama as--it is beginning--it's going to sit on people who are going to ask, What's he saying? What does this mean? This started at the convention speech where he gave this strange speech about no one is black, no one is white, no one is this, no one is--"

Gigot: "But people loved it, Dorothy."

Rabinowitz: "Yes, I know, they loved--exactly....Well, I can tell you that this mass of nonmeaning, nonspecific feelings, attitudes and programs is going to become unraveled very soon when people look for programs...."

UPDATE: The new, and final, Des Moines Register poll, shows Obama actually gaining in Iowa, as he opens up a 7% lead over Hillary and Edwards.

I have never agreed with Dorothy Rabinowitz. It makes me profoundly uneasy to do so. I support Barack Obama.

But I can't deny that yesterday, after watching an hour-long Obama speech from Iowa on CNN, I found myself thinking much the same thing.

Of course, the nonsense about people forgetting him is typical juvenile Rabinowitz nonsense. She is a provacateur, not a journalist.

But I can't say I don't share some of the feeling that this great candidate, great man, could be sunk if he doesn't do something about the ponderous, preachy platitudes. Eloquence is a function of message and not spiellength.

And let me never have to agree with Dorothy Rabinowitz again.

I'm glad someone else has noticed that Obama is mostly flash with relatively little substance.

To those who love him so, let me hasten to add that I have little doubt that, down the road, he could be an incredible candidate. But it is not yet his time. He's not ready.

I support Hillary Clinton. No, she's not perfect; and, no, I don't agree with all of what she stands for. But she is all substance. America needs a mature, responsible, tough, committed leader for the challenges ahead, and Hillary is that leader. You don't have to like her. Just grudgingly accept the fact that we need her.

Do people never take the time to move beyond what they see and hear from the main stream media. Obama is full of substance if you take the time to go to his website and review what is clearly laid out there as far as policies and plans. Or maybe if you took the time to view and listen to several foreign policy forums he has held as well as specific ones related to the economy, healthcare, and education. Absolutely no candidate gets in front of folks for an hour and outlines all the specifics for every single issue.....there isn't time. Sometimes one has to be an active voter, actually taking the time to see what is out there for all to see related to specifics. Of course we do live in a sound bite nation, so maybe I expect too much from folks as far as meeting THEIR obligation to be informed versus waiting to be spoon fed.

Three cheers to Dorothy Rabinowitz for saying what others are saying also, and let's hope the rest of the country gets it soon..... Mr. Obama would make an excellent TV announcer or talk show host with his stream of "feel good" rhetoric in that deep baritone voice.... but that is all it is... It's all "feel good" rhetoric. None of it will go beyond his rhetoric of the moment. Paul Krugman of the New York Times rightfully calls him "naive" in the Krugman article of December 17, 2007 titled "Big Table Fantasies". The "naive" quote is in paragraph 3 (three). Dr. Krugman is right.

I agree, as time has passed- it is now March-Obama is tied to some serious unsavory characters and is becoming the clear Marxist that he is

Strangest thing... He is going to be your president. Suck on it -- that's for all you people came out playing gloom and doom for his campaign. How wrong were you all...
