Kristol mess on first day on the job

This is almost too rich to be true. Eight paragraphs into his new stint as a New York Times op-ed columnist, William Kristol has already made an embarrassing error.

His column, which suggests that the Democrats not underestimate Mike Huckabee's chances to win it all (see post below on this page), includes this graf just past the midway point, quotes the "conservative writer Michelle Malkin" as saying, "For the work-hard-to-get-ahead strivers who represent the heart and soul of the G.O.P., there are obvious, powerful points of identification.”

There's just one problem: She never said it, as she was quick to point out herself on her michellemalkin.com site: "Since I never usually appear on the New York Times op-ed page unless someone’s calling me a fascist, I was pleasantly surprised to see the quote. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I didn’t write what Kristol attributed to me. A different MM–Michael Medved–was the author." She then reproduces the Medved passage and links to the source, a Jan. 2 column he wrote for townhall.com.

But while we're at it, if you have somehow missed Michelle Malkin's famous "cheerleader" video, here it is:

I'm soooo surprised... No big deal though, he's just gettin warmed up folks! I have a question... Since the NYT felt the need to hire a conservative writer why won't we insist that Fox news hire a liberal talk show host? I mean, MSNBC has Tucker and Joe Scarborough don't they? CNN has "what's his name".... It would seem only fair.

this is as perfect as perfect gets. say what you want, quote whoever you want, make up whatever facts you want. it doesn't matter. i wont check, the times won't check, who the hell cares. as long as it makes my point, why not say it

I intensely dislike NYT and Kristol. However, this was the kind of error that could have and probably has happened to many of us.

only, many of us don't have editors, fact checkers, and the need to be personally responsible because millions of people might read what we write.

While I agree that this sort of error has happened to many of us before it speaks clearly of carelessness. If Kristol really did research and attempted to make his point from knowledge of the subject matter, he would not have made this mistake. I have passed on bad information before and been burned or embarrassed, but I learned to check things out before I simply open my mouth. Kristol has done this before and he clearly has not learned. Not held accountable much, is he?

"... this was the kind of error that could have and probably has happened to many of us."

Particularly in those moments when we're just speaking off the cuff to an audience of millions.

William The Bloody or William The Stupid?

Your choice after that 6th grade mistake!!!!

Malkin should probably stick to cheerleading. As a "writer" she's a pretty good cheerleader.

As for Kristol, it couldn't have happened to a better guy - if by 'better guy' we mean "the person who got it more wrong about Iraq and the ME than any other modern commentator."

Damn, she's pretty. I just love that beautiful face.
Baby, you jack my boots. I wanna be interned in your camp. You can blacklist my fifth column and I'll nuke your third world.

Why on earth is there not a boycott of the NYT and the Washington Post? I read the Washington Post every day for 15 years until I became too disguested with their manipulation of the news. And from what I have read the NYT is no better. Libral media my ......

On the other hand, my friends got so sick of me calling their favorite papers propaganda that they kept the paper and got rid of me.

You know the difference between the NYT and the Pravda? No one believed Pravda!

It just keeps snowballing, Greg.

Try doing a search at the times for "michelle malkin fascist" or anything of the sort. I sure don't find anything that would corroborate her claim that she never appears on the op-ed pages unless she's being called a fascist.

Oh dear. There is a rather embarrassing error in this report. The link you post: michellmalkin.com is not accurate.

Clearly this demonstrates that you are no longer worthy to share your opinions publicly.

Read all of the criticisms of Bill Kristol and apply them to yourself.

Now, go stand in the corner with Bill and the other bad columnists.

Maybe it should be called Kristol meth.

Sure, an eror like his can happen to anyone. But, he is supposed to be a leading columnist, one at the top of his craft. Yet the positions he takes, and predications he makes, have turned out consistently, if not spectacularly wrong for years now. I read his stuff in Time magazine and he is laughable in his effort to manipulate facts and twist things to promote his position, which over time turns out to be completely wrong. In the world I live in, when you fail at the basic elements of your job, and do so for long periods of time, you lose that job. Yet Kristol gets another gig? Incredible.

The day Michelle Malkin corrects you on your facts, it's time to hang it up.
