No 'Gomer' for Peggy Noonan

Peggy Noonon at the Wall Street Journal online says people better not underestimate Mike Huckabee. He's hometown but NOT Gomer Pyle -- more James Carville than Jim Nabors. Well, yes he IS married to a Republican.

Favorite media whoops, out of many (including Chris Matthews claiming the Iraq war is now in its 7th year instead of its 5th): The New York Times still has a special editorial board comment from yesterday afternoon posted near the top of its home page. It includes this graf: "The Iowa caucuses are an extreme case of putting up barriers to voting. It is no wonder that turnout today is expected to be so low." Of course, it ended up smashing all records.

Matthews also predicted McCain would do much better than he did, and promised a major newsmaking announcement in the Hillary concession speech (didn't happen).

When was the last time Chris Matthews got anything right?

I have this recurrent dream. I am watching Chris Matthews' Sunday morning show, and he gets to the "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" segment and all the panelists say, "Cripes, Chris, pick anything. The field's too broad, dude."
