The coming scorched earth Clinton/Obama battle

James Fallows has a terrific post at his Atlantic blog estimating how far Hillary will go in scorching Obama (helping McCain). For one thing, she was criticized by some, who were warming up to her again, in the days before the latest primaries, for suggesting that she -- and McCain -- could protect the USA but Obama might not. But she wouldn't say that again, right? Fallows quotes her today saying exactly the same thing. Now Obama hints he will go just as negative.

Then there's a suggestion that Rush Limbaugh's highly-publicized instructions to his dittoheads to vote for Hillary in Texas actually may have won it for her there. I can't judge the math on this, just passing it along:

You mean her dishonesty in pinning the NAFTA/Canada comment on Obama by LYING...
"someone from (Hillary) Clinton's campaign is telling the embassy to take it with a grain of salt. . . That someone called us and told us not to worry."

It is now being said that it was Hillary's camp offering up a "nudge nudge wink wink"

Here is an excerpt as it relates to what Canada was being told about claims that Hillary and Obama will consider walking away from NAFTA if it cannot be renegotiated to provide more substance about fair trade related to labor and the environment.

"Quite a few people heard it," said one source in the room.
"He said someone from (Hillary) Clinton's campaign is telling the embassy to take it with a grain of salt. . . That someone called us and told us not to worry."
Government officials did not deny the conversation took place.
They said that Mr. Brodie sought to allay concerns about the impact of Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton's assertion that they would re-negotiate NAFTA if elected. But they did say that Mr. Brodie had no recollection of discussing any specific candidate — either Ms. Clinton or Mr. Obama.
