First review of my book arrrives...

Kirkus Reviews is the most respected pre-publication outlet for book reviews and today it weighs in on my new book, So Wrong for So Long: How the Press, the Pundits --and the President -- Failed on Iraq," in a very positive way, saying it is "worthy of shelving alongside the best of the Iraq books to date." The book features a foreword by war reporter Joe Galloway and a preface by Bruce Springsteen and can be ordered from Amazon or B&N for about $11 over on the left rail here (in bookstores next week).

Kirkus
notes that the book "gathers some five years’ worth of Mitchell’s media-watchdog opinion pieces from that august journal, consistent in their opposition to the Iraq misadventure and prescient... Mitchell was one of the first to question New York Times reporter Judith Miller’s coziness with the administration and its claims through her of the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Saddam Hussein’s bunkers. He was also quick to criticize MSNBC news host Chris Matthews’s assertion, on that very day of Bush’s mission-accomplished declaration, 'He won the war. He was an effective commander. Everybody recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics.'

"Visiting such points on the timeline as the Pat Tillman death-by-friendly-fire coverup, the Miller affair (and her subsequent buyout) and the suicides of several American soldiers in protest against corruption, Mitchell charts how disastrously wrongheaded the war has been from the start, and how numerous and various the wrongheaded have been....A lucid chronology of error, worthy of shelving alongside the best of the Iraq books to date."

Congratulations to Greg Mitchell, one of my unsung heroes in the fight for media responsibilty and truth about the Iraq War.

As the director of WMD (Weapons of Mass Deception) and two books on the subject, I was influenced and educated by Mitchell's excellent reporting. I look forward to reading his book.

A preface by noted historian and intellectual giant Bruce Springsteen??

I assume the self-parody is intended? It's too obvious to be accidental.

Anyway, I have read many of Mitchell's rants on the topic of Mr. Saddam Hussein's premature retirement. For the most part his opinions are funny if numbingly unoriginal. But should forests have been felled, chipped, bleached and smeared with ink simply to add to the permanent record of moonbattery on this subject?

I can only offer one person's humble opinion. I say nay.
