Ode to Joad

Tom Morello joined Bruce to do an electric studio version of "Ghost of Tom Joad" on the new Springsteen compilation album just out this week--here's conclusion of an earlier live version that is one of my all-time faves.

This is reminiscent of the time the Reagan campaign attempted to appropriate "Born In The USA," only to have Springsteen tell them not to. They heard the chorus, but apparently deaf to the rest of the lyrics and the point of the song. Brooks's column evinces a similar selective or deliberate deafness. Put more simply: is he stupid or crazy?

So millionaire many times over Bruce Springsteen is more sincere singing about the poor than David Brooks is writing about Bruce?

I think you have a skewed world view of the Boss.

Yes, Bruce Springsteen is more sincere and authentic when discussing poverty than is David Brooks.
