Nobel Peace Prize for...Beethoven?

The European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize today and, as I have noted before, its anthem is my man Beethoven's "Ode to Joy."  Aptly.   "All men will be brothers."  Leonard Bernstein marked the falling of the Berlin Wall with performance in Berlin of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, with words of "Ode to Joy" changed to "Ode to Freedom."

One Sunday morning a few months ago, during ABC-TV's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos Most Of The Time Because He Does The Early Morning Show Every Weekday And Likes To Sleep In Once In A While So It May Be Hosted By An ABC Correspondent We'd Like People To Take Seriously", George Will spoke disparagingly of the European Union, calling it a union that is not unified, has a flag nobody salutes, and an anthem nobody sings. Yeah, and Chicago has TWO Major League Baseball teams.
