Beasts of the Southern Wild is the best American film so far this year, so here's the short (25-minute) film made by the director Benh Zeitlin a few years back--Glory at Sea, the precursor, if more of a fantasy, with same tone, nearby locale, young girl narrator and similar music. And according to IMDB, "The Glory at Sea" theme song by Benh Zeitlin and Dan Romer was used as the theme for the final days of Barack Obama's US presidential campaign." (h/t Roger Ebert)
