Boomers Right? Music Worse Today--and Too Loud?

Ha, told you so.   Well, that will no doubt be the Boomer claim based on this NYT story tomorrow, as two researchers reveal results of their study of changes in popular music since the 1950s.  They (or their computers) measure such things as variety of "timbre" and what might be called creativity in new note-making and conclude: Yes, music has been in decline since the 1960s.  And, by other measures, it is definitely louder.  So Boomers who complain about that are right, also.  Well, that simplifies if, but you get the idea...and they conclude that we might be on the edge of a "golden age" in music anyway.
