Major piece for tomorrow's
NYT on a subject few remember today: It was just 50 years ago that the NFL became fully intergrated--when Bobby Mitchell joined the Washington Redskins, the last team to accept a black player. Think about that -- two years after JFK elected, and almost 15 years after Jackie Robinson made the baseball big leagues.
I remember it well, because as a Cleveland Browns fan I was upset that Bobby, then a halfback (only later a flanker), was traded, but happy to see him breaking the barrier in D.C. Still, amazing that there are today teams named "Redskins" and "Indians" and "Braves" (with their "tomahawk chop" and war chants).

I was at Buzzfeed a short time ago, and it had a story about the blown call at the Braves's game last night. It included tweets from a number of people, one of whom was GREG MITCHELL!
