Woman Set to Die
Barring a last-minute move, a woman named Kimberly McCarthy will tonight become only the fifth female to be executed in Texas, the death penalty capital of the U.S., Texas, since 1854, and only the 13th in the country in the past four decades. Formerly married to a Black Panther leader, she was convicted of bludgeoning a neighbor, 71, to death, in a drug frenzy. (For a history of the death penalty in the U.S., up to today, see my recent ebook here.)
