Pafko, Who Survived 'Shots,' Dies at 92

Former all-star outfielder Andy Pafko has died at the age of 92.   A fine player, he is remembered more for two "shots."   At left you see him watching, in a famous shot, Bobby Thomson's drive sail into the leftfield stands at the Polo Grounds to seal the Giants pennant over his Dodgers in the 1951 playoff.  Bobby's HR became known as the "Shot Heard Around the World." Dom DeLillo later wrote a tremendous novella-length story titled "Pafko at the Wall," which would serve as the opening of his (disappointing) novel Underworld.
