One of the epic live gigs ever opened tonight at NYC's Academy of Music in 1971, featuring The Band (plus Allen Toussaint leading the horn section). And I was there one night. A box set appeared a few years ago. A highlight:

After attending the first Woodstock, we went to the second Woodstock to cover it for USA TODAY. Got there a day or two early and a guy was in the middle of the field all alone pointing to the giant stage and speakers. "Hi,'' he said to me. "I'm Rick Danko.''
