Dylan in a Day

Fifty year ago in NYC, with the aid of a couple of bottles of Beaujolais (and it showed) Bob Dylan recorded his last pre-electric album, Another Side--in one day, on this date.   It included future classics such as "My Back Pages," "All I Really Want to Do," and one of his greatest songs, "Chimes of Freedom."  Little-known fact:  He also recorded "Mr. Tambourine Man" but cut it, and used on his next (electric) lp.  The album was met with mixed response from Dylan fans (such as I) because of the rough recording and the turn away from outwardly political songs (as he sort of announced in "My Back Pages").  But holds up well today.

Springsteen did "Chimes of Freedom" in East Berlin--just before fall of the Wall.  Below that, the Byrds at Monterey (cut from movie).
