Huckabee has already swept Kansas and leading elsewhere tonight. Before any Huck fans get too excited, this is reminding me of 1976 when Jimmy Carter surprisingly took control of the race early on, then Jerry Brown -- in his Linda Ronstadt heyday -- won most of the primaries the rest of the way, and still finished far behind. It positioned Jerry well for the future -- but he never went anywhere, in White House terms.
Obama has gained a vital clean sweep, even taking the Virgin Islands, for chrissakes. Who knows, those three delegates from there might swing the race. But he has continued his trend of winning caucuses in a landslide (where race is less of a factor) -- this time in Washington and Nebraska -- and a voting booth state, Louisiana, that is half-black, like Georgia. Exit polls have him getting only 23% of the white vote there. I am still wondering if he will carry Ohio, Texas or Pennsylvania (non-caucus states) where he will need a large white vote. Meanwhile, Hillary's people saying suspension of David Shuster by MSNBC not enough, they want him canned. The outrage may be real enough but likely there is also the element of keeping the issue alive as it feeds the image of the "old boy network" beating up on Hillary, which is sure to win votes.
