Just back from three days in Vermont at conference. Left at odd moment -- as McClellan book provided evidence for my 5-year-old charges of media complicity in the war. I was quoted on this in New York Times yesterday, which also mentioned my book. Here is link to my new column on the Brian Williams/Tom Brokaw interview on all this the other night...

GREG, please reply if you can. I'm really having a hard time with all of this. Can you please explain to me how in the world the media is going to be allowed to let this slide? For example, when Gregory or these other idiots say it's not our job to challenge those in power, when they say the right questions were asked, what, or who, is there to scream back at them and god, "REALLY,THEN WHAT IS JOURNALISM, WHAT IS REPORTING, PLEASE DEFINE IT FOR ME."
I'm sick to my stomach seeing these people make pathetic excuses. Nobody wants to take responsibility, but the truth, is history, including the views of our founders, clearly show that it is the press and free speech that is supposed to keep the powers that be in check. Is there anyone or any organization or anything at all in your industry that will get these people, these so called reporters on the record and in front of the public ask them some really questions, like, ok, if it's not your job, who is supposed to do it then? If you asked ALL the right questions, the how why were you so wrong and the McClatchy people so right? What special magical information did they find?
This McClellan thing is really the last straw, and I can no longer stomach paying any attention to politics because it is just not worht it anymore. With all due respect to you and the other people there keeping up the good fight, if these people, these failed wannabe journalists do not start getting ripped apart, publicly, for their failure, then there is nothing to convince me that anything will ever change, and whether it is Iran or North Korea, as soon as the drumbeat starts again, they will make the same mistakes, and nothing will change.
Seriously, what do we as citizens have to do? Do I have to start a movements to send the pictures of dead soldiers and maimed and burnt iraqi children to their homes, or flood their offices with pictures like this everyday to snap these people into reality, to get them to realize that YES, THEY DO HAVE A ROLE IN THIS, THEY DO HAVE BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS.
HOW, IN THE FACE OF ALL THIS EVIDENCE THAT THEY ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN, CAN WE NOT GET ANYONE TO MOVE THE MEDIA IN A BETTER DIRECTION AND ADMIT HOW BADLY THEY FAILED?
