One of my indelible memories: While in Chicago in August 1968 for the epic protests at the Democratic convention--I left on my first airliner trip ever to get there exactly 44 years ago-- I returned from the streets one night and caught the late Gore Vidal (see post just below on this blog) and William F. Buckley debating live on the TV and nearly coming to blows. As I recall, ABC had hired them to do nightly debates during both the Republican and Dem conventions. Gore, of course, was on the antiwar side. Here's the most famous snippet:
