NYT's Dwight Garner with first major review tomorrow of new brain twister / memoir from Talking Heads' leader David Byrne. (I presume David does not mention that I picked out for him the Heads' first publicity photo.) Unfortunately he finds that it ain't no party, not even disco. “How Music Works” is a "roll of mental wallpaper, a textbook for a survey course you didn’t mean to sign up for. It drifts between music history, sonic anthropology, mild biographical asides, broad pop theory and grandfatherly financial and artistic advice."
