UPDATES Story gaining some legs, as AP now has big story about it. Confirms Secret Service probing. The major local paper The Tennessean with more details here.
Earlier: Wild, and probably wooly, story of the day: hackers claiming to be associated with Anonymous purport to have masterminded a break-in at a PriceWaterhouse office in Franklin, Tenn., where someone somehow got access to Mitt Romney's tax returns, copied them, and now demands a ransom of $1 million Bitcoins to return them--or they will be revealed on Sept. 28. They posted about all this at Paste Bin. They also sent a USB drive containing something or other to a local GOP office as proof of the theft--and the office received it, and turned it over to the Secret Service, which is taking it seriously. We're not...for now. Hackers who actually do a physical break-in?
Well, there's no doubt at least that the tax returns are a prime target for mischief now. But PriceWaterhouse says in a statement: "We are working closely with the United States Secret Service, and at this time there is no evidence that our systems have been compromised or that there was any unauthorized access to the data in question."
