Beethoven is my favorite composer too, even though I recognize that he's universally placed at the heights of musical composition with J. S. Bach and Mozart, followed at a short distance by everybody else. Of course not even these three composed unapproachable master pieces in EVERY instance. There are works by lesser composers working at THEIR highest level who match or exceed the quality of composition by the supreme triumvirate. There's no doubt that the second-to-last work in order of composition among the Opus 18 quartets is quite wonderful So is Schubert's "Quintet for Strings" in C-major (with double double-basses rather than double violas). There are numerous Beethoven pieces that are incomparable, and others where different composers have approached or matched The Master. The Violin Concertos of Beethoven and Brahms are an example of this.
