In the wake of President Obama's smashing re-election, tens of thousands (perhaps more than 100,000 and counting) have petitioned the White House to allow their states to secede from the Union. They are doing it through a little known (to me) "tool" at the White House site that allows for such petitions. Most of the 19 states are, ahem, former "slave" states, that went for Romney, but petition drives extend to liberal Oregon and New York. Paging Todd Palin!
The goal for each: 25,000 names. At that level, the Obama administration must respond in some way. Wouldn't it be funny if they let a couple of states go? After all, to use Romney terms, nearly all of the Southern states are "takers" who get back far from the federal government than they put it...
Here is the page for Texas, which has over 22,000 signatures so far, titled, "Peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government." They assert that "it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to
do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure
their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and
beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by
the federal government." UPDATE: Due to publicity today, Texas has now hit the 25,000 mark.
