That would be Armstrong now, I guess, and I have to confess: Not having followed his career, or even the doping allegations and the past week's circus, closely I did not know that he was named after ....Lance Rentzel. Is that commonly known? Well that's a blast from the past. If you're a certain age you know that Rentzel was a star receiver for the NFL Cowboys who famously married sex bomb Joey Heatherton. Then in 1970 he exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl, and it turned out he had done it before. And he richly earned the nickname "Keep It In Your Pants Lance." He was convicted but, amazingly (I guess times have changed), he was still allowed to play in the NFL.
Lance Armstrong was named for him in 1971--a year
after the well-publicized arrest.
