"President Obama has ruled out any negotiations over the debt ceiling, and, on Monday, he vowed that revenue increases must match any further spending cuts.
But as this deal shows, he often compromises at the last minute, and,
in this case, it was Senate Democrats who undercut him on both the
estate tax and the income tax threshold, making it hard to remain
adamant.
"The fiscal-cliff agreement could still be blown up by the House, which
would not be out of character. But a cleareyed look at the deal’s
limitations shows how much Republicans have gotten for their
intransigence."

Dear Greg: I may be the last person on the planet who has stumbled upon your blog, but I love it, and I particularly enjoy how much of it comes down to music. Play on!
