Tonight at Grammys, although not sure why Elton is there except he did write a song called "Levon." Here footage of Levon and the gang doing "Cripple Creek" in rehearsal at the group's peak in 1969, not seen until recently.
Elton's whole schtick early on was trying to sound like The Band. I can't find the quote right now, but I remember Taupin being asked a question about why the lyrics were so Americana-ish and his answer was basically "WE WERE TRYING TO BE LIKE THE BAND".
