They'll have the annual All-Star Game home run derby soon but forgive me for returning to my youth--when the whole concept gained notice with this weekly TV series, around 1960, featuring all of the future HOF sluggers of the day. Here's a few minutes of Mickey Mantle vs. Harmon Killebrew.

Thanks for posting this.
Harmon was my favorite Twin as a young boy in MPLS. I met him at the dedication of Killebrew Drive outside the old Met Stadium, which was a great honor. I produced the story for Mn Pub Radio when he won induction into the HOF.
Thanks for your blog. I read it daily.

When I was 10 I wanted to be Harmon Killebrew, whom I believed to be as close to a Renaissance Man as was possible in the mid-twentieth century. Decades later I got to ferry him around an Oklahoma city for a charity golf tournament, and discovered that I had underestimated him. Thanks for the video.
There are (at least) three DVDs of that show currently available. I became aware of it when Hank Aaron mentioned it on David Letterman a couple years ago.
I've been watching it with my godson, who is a baseball nut. We've decided Aaron's batting stance is the best to emulate.
