My favorite piece of Americana music, from Charles Ives--the autumnal "Alcotts" movement form his "Concord" sonata. (Of course, he quotes Beethoven's Fifth throughout.) The great Jeremy Denk, recent MacArthur winner, who I interviewed for my Beethoven book.
