Louis the King
Louis "The King" Armstrong--only the most important musical figure in America in past 100 years--was born 113 years ago today in (of course) New Orleans. His recordings from 1920s changed everything in jazz and popular music--both the music and the singing. That's my photo of Louis's very first boyhood horn, now in a museum in his native NOLA. And here's his classic "Black and Blue." And also from 1920s the immortal "Tight Like This."
