GOP Hashtag Backfires

The Republicans thought they had a bright idea with their--promoted--Twitter hashtag #AreYouBetterOff (or maybe that passed as bright idea for the GOP).  In any case, they got flooded with positive responses, which was not exactly the idea, and some got funneled directly to their Web site, as well.   As more than one wag pointed out:  "The Republicans are so unpopular they had to pay Twitter to promote this trend." Early on the NYT collected some of the most embarrassing, at least for the GOPers, and you can add your own at the hashtag, still:

--Yes! In 2007 my health insurer said I had to pay $500 for my IUD, this year I got it for free. God Bless #Obamacare

--I’d like to see #Romney's and Ryan‘s assets from 2008, compare them to today, and ask them #AreYouBetterOff ??

-- Sure am. My wife and I are now gainfully employed and can almost afford to vote #republican but we’re still voting #Obama

--#AreYouBetterOff   No. Signed, Osama Bin Laden.

I wouldn't call 5 twitter postings a backfire. Nice try though.

This from the creators of the #attackwatch hashtag which really did backfire.

Go to Twitter and check the hashtag yourself. The overwhelming majority of responses are some variation of "Yes, we're a lot better off."

These are just a few examples. If you had actually LOOKED at this hash tag, you would see hundreds of responses just like these. Nice try though.

It didn't say there were only 5, it said that five were selected as examples.

Do try to keep up, mmmkay?

As to the replies, I hope they brace themselves. As word gets out/around about this, they're certainly going to see a lot more!

Yeah to the commenter - your twitter must be broken. I just checked and it is definitely a flood of support for Obama - and yes I am better off than I was 4 years ago.

Isn't it great that people can check facts for themselves in this here information age.

Um, those were examples. You may want to actually look at the tag.

This post only added five. Look at the twitter stream for #areyoubetteroff. It's pretty awesome, in the Democratic sense.
