Americans Not Evolving?

If you wonder what progressives (in politics and in reasoning) are up against in the U.S. today, here's a recent poll from Gallup that only 47% of Americans believe in evolution.  Some 46% believe in "creationism."  And of the 47% backing evolution, 32% believe that God guided it.

They note that the number of those believing in creationism has increased 2% over the past 30 years.  Yes, you read that right.  No surprise, most Democrats are science- and fact-based while GOPers remain on the truthiness side.   In fact, 58% of Republicans agree with the statement that humans created within the past 10,000 years. More here.

Gallup's chief,  Frank Newport, commenting on the June 2012 poll,  dryly comments:  "Despite the many changes that have taken place in American society and culture over the past 30 years, including new discoveries in biological and social science, there has been virtually no sustained change in Americans' views of the origin of the human species since 1982."
