Experts vs. Ryan Plan
NYT with two wonky, helpful pieces from noted experts on the Ryan (and in one case, Romney) economic plans, just up online. Here's Simon Johnson, who shows how the deficit actually gets hurt by the "deficit cutters." Concludes: "Mr. Ryan stands for substantially phasing out not just Medicare but also the federal government. This may help increase turnout among the conservative base, but will this extreme vision really help Mr. Romney win over independent voters or disaffected Democrats?" And Paul Krugman takes a breath a provides a primer on the Ryan plan. Leading him to: "All the claims of major deficit reduction therefore rest on the magic asterisks. In that sense, this isn’t even a plan, it’s just a set of assertions."
