Yes, It Was Assault Rifle That Did the Damage

 UPDATE  New NYT story is "balanced" but basically defends rifle used in school shooting from critics. The weapon of choice for young mass murderers.  Also used in Aurora.  They did make a pink version for breast cancer awareness month.

Earlier: All day yesterday and into this morning, news reports had Adam Lanza keeping his (i.e., his dead mom's) assault rifle--if that's the proper term for it--in his car, so all of the killing was done with semi-automatic handguns.  That made attacks on "long guns" or assault weapons harder to stick based on this case.

But, hey, presto--the medical examiner finally appeared for his presser just now and revealed that most--or maybe, virtually all, a bit unclear--of the damage was done with the rifle, the military-style Bushmaster .223.   Each victim (mainly, yes, first graders) shot 3 to 7 times, and no wonder, with such fire power. You tell me why any mom--or anyone--has this weapon at home.

In fact, he brought two such weapons, along with two handguns, to the school. The ammo: the kind that does maximum damage.
