Play the campaign fund race game!

Huffington Post's new Fund Race 2008 tool that charts all individual political campaign donations reported to the FEC for 2007 is a lot of fun, especially since I have donated nothing and don't have to worry about anyone finding me there. You can search by name, profession, zip code -- almost anything, or look up your block or apartment building to see what everyone else gave. As for profession, while some may obsess on movie stars, I will focus, given my profession, on writers, editors and media moguls -- although I will note in passing such notables as Crash writer/director Paul Haggis giving $2100 to Kucinich. At the site you will see hundreds of of editors/reporters employed by various magazines and newspapers who either have flexible ethics policies about political donations or don't know about these donations.

A quick search turns up a few surprises and some not so: Christopher Buckley sent $1000 to Ron Paul. Alex Witchel, the editor/writer and wife of Frank Rich gave $1100 to Hillary. Adam Hochschild ($6900 Obama). David Mamet ($4600 Dodd). Michael Chabon ($4600 Obama). Laurel Touby of MediaBistro ($4600 Clinton). Nick Pileggi ($2300 Obama). John Grisham and Amy Tan both $4600 to Hillary. Grisham also kicked in $1000 to Obama. Hugh Hefner ($2300 Obama). Dean Koontz ($2300 Thompson). Join the fun:
