WSJ had an idiotic piece today claiming that Yankees' money doesn't give them an inordinate advantage. Proof? They don't win the World Series EVERY year. Argument could only be made by a non-baseball fan. Of course, you can't guarantee a win in any short 5 or 7 game series against another good team--just like you can't for sure "buy" a Super Bowl. What you can do is buy your way into the playoffs, as the Yankees have done something like 14 our of 15 years, and with a strong chance to win it all due to talent. Thankfully, such a reality check making this and other arguments now published.
